Diethylene glycol is a common raw material for chemical synthesis. Examples of its applications include the synthesis of morpholine and 1,4-dioxane. It can be used as a solvent for dissolving nitrocellulose, resins, dyes, oils and other organic compounds. It is also used as a wetting agent for tobacco, cork, printing inks and adhesives. Some hydraulic systems also use diethylene glycol.
