Cyclohexanone is a six-carbon cyclic ketone. It is a colorless oily liquid at room temperature. It has a smell similar to peppermint oil and acetone. It turns yellow after a long time. It is slightly soluble in water (5-10 g/100 ml) and miscible with most organic solvents.
Cyclohexanone is used industrially as a solvent and as a trigger for some oxidation reactions, as well as for the preparation of adipic acid, cyclohexanone resins, caprolactam, and nylon.
